Australian Vanadium (ASX:AVL) has signed an agreement with Alcoa (NYSE:AA) to evaluate a 50–80MW vanadium flow battery system in Western Australia.
The scoping study aims to assess how long-duration battery storage can optimise refinery operations and increase renewable energy usage.
Australian Vanadium and its subsidiary VSUN Energy will lead system design, costings, and electrolyte supply considerations for the project.
The company stated that the proposed battery system would offer a storage duration of 6–8 hours to support industrial electrification.
Following the announcement, the Australian Vanadium share price was unchanged at $0.14.
The opportunity aligns with the business strategy of participating across vanadium production, electrolyte manufacturing, and battery deployment.
The company recently completed a $7.5 million placement to accelerate its integrated pit-to-battery growth strategy.
