Galan Lithium advances HMW Project towards production
Galan Lithium (ASX:GLN) has achieved an operational milestone at its flagship Hombre Muerto West Brine Project in Argentina, transitioning from developer to near-term producer.
Defying broader lithium market volatility, the company has completed wet plant commissioning of its Phase 1 nanofiltration facility, allowing the first processed lithium brine to flow into final evaporation ponds.
Independent laboratory testing confirmed that the plant's impurity separation performance aligns perfectly with design specifications.
Galan’s phased development strategy focuses on capital efficiency by initially producing a high-grade 6% lithium chloride concentrate rather than a capital-intensive carbonate.
Backed by a robust inventory of approximately 10,000 tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent already in the ponds, the plant is well-stocked to support its ongoing production ramp-up.
The concentrated product will be sold under existing Phase 1 offtake arrangements with Authium Limited, with first commercial sales slated for the second half of 2026.
As one of the few global greenfield lithium projects expected to enter production this year, Galan aims to stabilise its initial annualised output at 4,000 tonnes per annum LCE.
Long-term commercial viability is further bolstered by the project's inclusion in Argentina’s Large-Scale Investment Framework, which guarantees 30 years of fiscal stability and income tax benefits.
Construction is scheduled to commence in early 2027 to expand Phase 1 capacity to 5,200 tpa LCE, marking the next step in Galan's structured growth plan.
