Gina Rinehart's Hancock Iron Ore has cut jobs at its Pilbara operations while maintaining system production above 63 million tonnes annually.

The decision follows the recent consolidation of Roy Hill and Atlas Iron to streamline operations producing 70 million tonnes annually.

“We continuously look at optimising our mine plan,” said Hancock Iron Ore spokesperson.

The company stated that the new operational plan reduces activity at Roy Hill but extends mine life by 10 years.

The mining group regularly reviews its Western Australian assets to maximise efficiency and reduce waste extraction.

Affected employees were notified individually and offered substantial redundancy payouts to assist with their career transitions.
