Boltz pauses swaps after AI-assisted attacks
- Boltz paused its swap service after reporting a sharp increase in AI-assisted hacking attempts.
- Boltz said no user funds were at risk, while about US$180,860 remained locked in the protocol.
- The company said swaps will not resume soon as its developers work on security fixes.
Boltz paused its non-custodial Bitcoin (CRYPTO:BTC) swap service after reporting a surge in AI-assisted attacks against its infrastructure.
Boltz said several exploits were contained, but attackers were adapting faster than its development team could patch vulnerabilities.
“In the past few days alone we saw a drastic acceleration [of attacks] and we do not believe this asymmetry will reverse,” said Boltz.
Boltz said no user funds were ever at risk because its swaps are non-custodial and users retain control of their assets.
The company said its API will remain available for refunds, while its support team will continue assisting users.
Boltz had about US$180,860 in total value locked when the report was published, according to DefiLlama data cited by Cointelegraph.
Boltz supports swaps across Bitcoin mainnet, the Lightning Network and Liquid Network, but said services should not resume shortly.
At the time of reporting, Bitcoin price was $63,401.37.
