Merck and Hashgraph launch Hedera product passport platform

Share

Merck and The Hashgraph Group have launched an integrated product authentication and traceability solution on the Hedera network as businesses prepare for new European Union supply-chain transparency requirements.

The collaboration combines Merck's M-Trust product authentication technology with TrackTrace, a Hedera-based digital product passport platform introduced earlier this year.

Under the arrangement, security markers embedded in products and packaging can be verified using handheld scanners, with the authentication data recorded on blockchain-linked Digital Product Passports.

The companies said the system allows businesses to verify both the authenticity of physical products and the integrity of associated supply-chain records through a single platform.

The solution is designed to support compliance with the European Union's Digital Product Passport requirements under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation as well as traceability obligations under the EU Deforestation Regulation.

According to the companies, the technology has already been tested in an undisclosed supply-chain pilot and could be deployed across industries including food, pharmaceuticals, luxury goods and electronics where product provenance and authenticity are increasingly important.

The launch reflects growing interest in blockchain-based trade and compliance infrastructure as regulators worldwide introduce stricter sustainability and supply-chain reporting standards, creating new opportunities for enterprise blockchain adoption beyond traditional financial applications.

At the time of reporting, Hedera price was $0.07922.
