The US Senate Agriculture Committee is expected to release its updated digital asset market structure bill by the end of Wednesday.
The committee is drafting its version of the Digital Asset Markets Clarity Act, which aims to establish a regulatory framework for crypto markets.
Chair John Boozman previously said a markup hearing is scheduled for next Tuesday.
The move follows delays in the Senate Banking Committee after Coinbase withdrew its support for the bill.
Some Senate Democrats are reportedly seeking tighter restrictions on decentralised finance provisions.
Lawmakers have also raised concerns over ethics language and rules related to stablecoin rewards.
Political uncertainty has cast doubt on whether either committee has enough support to advance the legislation.
“There will be a crypto market structure bill — it’s a question of when, not if,”
Patrick Witt said.
“Assuming a multi-trillion dollar industry will continue to operate indefinitely without a comprehensive regulatory framework is pure fantasy,”
Patrick Witt added.
It remains unclear whether delays in the banking committee will affect progress in the agriculture committee.
Both committees are expected to reconcile their versions before any Senate floor vote.
President Donald Trump said at the World Economic Forum that he plans to sign the bill into law “very soon.”
Lawmakers have warned the upcoming US midterm elections could complicate efforts to pass crypto legislation.
Senator Thom Tillis previously said Congress may face a narrow window early in the year to finalise crypto bills.
