New Zealand telecommunications infrastructure provider Chorus (ASX:CNU) has reported record-breaking network demand in its Q2 FY26 connections update.
Average monthly fibre usage reached an all-time high of 699GB in December 2025, a 9% increase year-on-year.
The network also clocked its highest-ever data usage day on Nov. 30, 2025, processing over 31 petabytes following a major Fortnite game update.
The company's transition from legacy infrastructure to high-speed broadband remains steady, with total fibre connections climbing to 1,129,000 after adding 7,000 lines during the quarter.
The growth was partially offset by a decline in total fixed-line connections, which dropped by 8,000 as consumers migrated away from copper services.
Fibre uptake across Chorus’ wider footprint now sits at 72.4%, supported by an additional 5,000 addresses passed by fibre during the period.
Chorus is in the final stages of its copper withdrawal in fibre-available areas. Only 3,000 copper lines remain active in these zones, with a full retirement deadline set for mid-2026.
Nationwide, copper disconnections totaled 15,000 for the quarter, leaving just 63,000 lines in service across the country.
At the time of reporting, Chorus' share price was $8.13.
