Clinical-stage biopharmaceutical firm HCW Biologics (NASDAQ:HCWB) reported positive preliminary human data from its Phase 1 trial of HCW9302, revealing that all three mild alopecia areata patients in the 3 μg/kg cohort achieved a 25% or greater reduction in SALT scores.
This early clinical success marks a critical milestone for the company's proprietary interleukin-2 fusion immunotherapeutic platform after initiating human testing late last year.
The trial evaluation showed that the single subcutaneous monotherapy dose was well tolerated, with participants reporting only mild, self-limiting adverse events.
Crucially for the safety profile of the drug candidate, investigators observed no instances of capillary leak, cytokine release syndrome, or blood eosinophil increases.
HCW Biologics is currently advancing through its dose-escalation cohorts, which includes actively evaluating an elevated 8 μg/kg patient group.
Management projects establishing the official Recommended Phase 2 Dose for HCW9302 by the end of 2026.
