- The company stated the deal will strengthen its ability to protect consumers from financial crime and account takeovers.
Visa (NYSE: V) agreed to acquire the AI-powered fraud detection firm BioCatch for $2.4 billion in cash.
This transaction follows Visa's earlier investment of over $13 billion toward technology and infrastructure upgrades over the preceding five years.
"BioCatch will help our clients stop fraud before it reaches the point of payment," said Visa President of Value-Added Services Andrew Torre.
The acquisition targets completion no later than the final weeks of Visa's fiscal second quarter of 2027, pending regulatory approval.
Following the announcement, Visa's share price was up at $368.33.
The payments company announced the acquisition amid a broader corporate restructuring that involves cutting roughly 2,600 jobs, or 7% of its workforce.
Freed-up capital from those workforce reductions is expected to flow into divisions like value-added services, which encompasses the newly acquired BioCatch business.
